Then I followed through with the rest of the installation in a terminal window. Once the live-installer finishes booting, I issued:įrom a laptop I connected to the LAN interface that successfully got a DHCP address from the live environment. If you don't the installer will setup LAN on igb0, and WAN on igb1, which is opposite of the labeling, but still works if you forget to do it. So I pressed 3 (Escape to loader prompt), and entered the following at the OK prompt.ĭuring the live-install, I pressed a key and manually configured igb0 as the WAN, and igb1 as the LAN, which matches the Netgate labeling on the device's ethernet interfaces. You should press a key to stop the countdown timer from auto-booting, as the boot will hang, but you have a few seconds once you see the menu. Thanks to u/bikojo1133 for pointing me directly to that. So I recommend the VGA installation image for installing on the SG-2440 Serial console.īecause I could see the normal boot menu, I was able to follow the OPNSense instruction here. When I booted from the VGA image, I did not get any VGA console, but to my surprise the Serial console proceeded to the normal boot menu, with the normal countdown timer. Odds were low that it would work, but what did I have to lose?

I then created a OPNSense VGA image with Rufus and attached an external USB video card. I successfully got output in my Putty window, so the serial console was working but the boot simply *hung*. Using the pfSense Serial Console setup instructions found here, I was able to boot from the USB OPNSense Serial Image I created with Rufus on Windows.

My first attempt used the OPNSense Serial image. My method was a little different, but I believe both the SG-2220 and SG-2440 have the same basic issue - the serial port is not at the io port address that the OPNSense installer expects it to be at.
